The revolutionary design of the SENZ umbrella won a lot of prestigious awards (winner of the German Design award 2010, Red dot design award 2007, Dutch design award 2006). This year Senz was the winner of the iF Gold award, also known as the Oscar of the design world. By winning this award, SENZ finds herself in company of the most succesful design brands of the world. The iF Gold award is conceived as the largest design award of the world.

The beautiful and romantic designs of Minä Perhonen are not only used for fashion collections.

Akira Minagawa has also designed textiles and furniture fabrics. In 2004 a collaboration was initiated between well-known Danish furniture manufacturer Fritz Hansen and Minä Perhonen. As a result one of the all-time design classics the ‘Egg chair’ (designed by the great Arne Jacobsen in 1958) was dressed in Minä Perhonen fabrics ‘angel’, ‘sunny rain’ & ‘tamborine’.

Absolutely fascinated by Scandinavian design Akira Minagawa, amongst other great designers, collaborated with Danish textile maker Kvadrat. Kvadrat works closely with a range of independent designers, who all take interest in very different areas and find their inspiration through different design fields. The ‘Tambourine’, ‘Ikat Flower’ and ‘Big Flower’ are part of the Kvadrat collection.

In the world of Minä Perhonen the weaving, printing and embroidery are treated with great tenderness and finesse.

The Textile museum presents the work of Minä Perhonen from the 24^th of October 2009 till the 28^th of February 2010. Next to diverse fashion collections, wonderful interior and furniture textiles are part of the exhibition. Head designer Minagawa and his team are always searching for new boundaries to what is technically possible. This results in beautiful details that are hidden as little treasures in his garments and fabrics. Design sustainability and craftsmanship are becoming increasingly important in the world of fashion. Minä Perhonen represents these values in its design philosophy.

Tamago, Japanese for egg (the beginning, genesis), is the name of the new store of Simon Talsma and his son Casper. Simon Talsma is well known nationally for his famous store Cobra in Den Bosch.

This store is different from other stores because it’s not located in a shopping area. The Talsma family decided to start their new shop at the Spiegelgracht, surrounded by many art galleries. They also decided to not put their clothing on sale. When sale season starts Tamago puts unique collections in their store. Besides Minä Perhonen, there will be  other sustainable and high quality collections in the shop like  Sara Lanzi, Jane Wheeler and Marscha Hüskes. These brands are nowhere to be found in the Netherlands except the collection of Marscha Hüskes. The names of the designs are ‘rain symphony’ and ‘twig’. Rain Symphony is designed by Keiko Tanaka and came to life through the joyful sound of raindrops playing with the wind and splashing on your umbrella. The rain symphony has a diverse pattern and is very frivolous. It makes you happy on a cloudy day!

Twig was designed by Akira Minagawa with the hope of catching the arrows of light that come through the twigs and foliage when holding your umbrella. Twig perfectly merges with the dark autumn weather: it’s dark with a gray pattern of twigs. The designs are both very fashionable. Who is Minä Perhonen?

Minä Perhonen is a well-known international fashion brand from Japan. The poetic designer Akira Minagawa founded the fashion label in 2003. Timeless, frivolous and poetry are keywords suitable to the brand. The clothing is not just meant to be wearable for one season. They do not loose their allure through lapse of time. This is because the garments have beautiful refined details. Prints, embroidery and craftsmanship are important elements for Minä Perhonen and they are reused in every collection. The name of the brand is Finnish because the designer adores the lifestyle and the culture of Finland. “Minä” means “I” and  “Perhonen” is “Butterfly,” with a wish to make many beautiful designs like those of butterflies’ wings.

Who is SENZ Umbrellas?

Aiming to beat the odds on the bad performance of existing umbrellas, three Dutch design students from the Technical University in Delft decided to redefine the norm for umbrellas; they designed the new and innovative SENZ storm umbrella.

What makes it remarkable is its stylish aerodynamic shape, which keeps rain off your back and withstands up to 100km/h wind. The sight from underneath the umbrella is strongly improved by the same asymmetric shape. The points of the ribs of the umbrella are foreseen of so-called ‘eyesavers’. This makes the umbrella no longer dangerous for other people’s eyes. While the SENZ storm umbrella is solid, it remains lightweight and therefore very easy to use. The handle is foamed and rubberized to keep your grip from slipping. The SENZ is smart, strong and stylish!
